Frequently Asked Dental Questions – Los Angeles, CA

Ask your Los Angeles Dentist

Patient education is one of the most important things we provide here at Rancho Park Dental Care, because the more someone knows about taking care of their teeth, the healthier they are! That’s why we’ve answered some of the most popular dental questions below. If there is anything else you’d like to know about, you are always welcome to give us a call.

How often should I visit the dentist?

Our team (as well as the American Dental Association) recommends that everyone should visit the dentist at least twice a year for a checkup and cleaning. This is the most effective way to prevent the most common issues while also giving our team a chance to catch preexisting problems early so we can treat them right away.

Which is better: an electric or manual toothbrush?

According to research, both types of toothbrushes are effective at removing cavity-causing plaque from the teeth. So, if you have good oral health and like your brush, then there is no need to switch. We only recommend electric brushes for small children and people with mobility issues, as they can be easier to use compared to manual brushes.

Is flossing really that important?

Despite what you may have seen in the news, yes, flossing should be a part of your daily oral hygiene routine. It’s able to clean the small spaces between your teeth that your brush cannot, which drastically lowers your risk of cavities, gum disease, and even bad breath. It literally takes a minute, but it can potentially save you hours and hundreds of dollars in the treatment chair.

Are bleeding gums a big deal?

Sometimes. If you’ve just started flossing, or if you clean your teeth with too much pressure, a little bleeding is perfectly normal. Just lighten up, and after a few days, it should stop. But, if the bleeding continues beyond a week or so, then you likely have a minor infection that is making them inflamed. In this case, you need to come see us, as you won’t be able to take care of the problem at home, and waiting will only allow it to become worse.

Will you take my dental insurance?

Rancho Park Dental Care is happy to work with dental insurance plans from many providers, so more than likely, we’ll be able to use your coverage to help you save. To learn how your benefits will apply to your visit with us, just give our team a call, and we’ll answer all of your questions.

Can I finance my dental care?

Yes! You can sign up for CareCredit through our website, which enables patients to space out the cost of treatment into small monthly payments. Most plans have little to no interest, and to learn more, visit our New Dental Patient page.
